On Monday 30 June 2008 North Hertfordshire District Council gave planning permission for the redevelopment of The Wynd.

Stuart Kenny, Director General of Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, said: “We are pleased to have received planning permission from North Herts District Council on Monday night for the re-development of The Wynd area. This follows the recent ‘green light’ from the District Council for Phase One of our Town Centre development plans – namely the Street Scene.

“We will now study the conditions imposed by the District Council on The Wynd scheme and consider how these can best be responded to, so there remains much work to be done. However, this approval represents a real step in the right direction in our overall objective to create a vibrant town centre that will once again place the Garden City’s Town Centre shopping ‘Offer’ to the forefront in this area and indeed beyond.”
